Todd Cooperider, RUPES & the Auto Detailing Industry
In my time in the auto detailing industry, I’ve watched many changes happen right before my eyes. As new technology becomes available, products and tools are able to create better finishes in less time. Protective coatings are now capable of protecting the finish of a vehicle for years with a single application. Detailers are venturing into product distribution and working directly with manufacturers. Everyone in the auto detailing industry has felt the impact of this advancement in the past few years, good or bad.
Esoteric Auto Detail and RUPES
One person who I feel has played a significant roll in this constant progression is Todd Cooperider, owner of Esoteric Auto Detail. Many manufacturers have turned to Todd for product testing and advice, RUPES being one of them. Compared to other random orbital buffers, Todd noticed the RUPES polishers were capable of producing better results in less time. As a detailer meant more profit to be made, since time is money. Todd saw the market and benefit to fellow detailers, and quickly became one of the first places to offer the RUPES polishers in the United States.
RUPES Authorized Training Center
As the RUPES polishers became the go to tools for paint correction work, it was only natural that Todd taught the students of the Esoteric Elite Detailer Academy how to get the most out of them. During my time at the detailer academy, we were able to test the RUPES results side by side with a Griot’s Random Orbital Buffer. It is one thing to read about the differences online or even watch some videos, but when you get a chance to experience the difference first hand with an industry professional explaining, you gain a much deeper understanding. In February 2013, Esoteric Elite Detailer Academy became the first RUPES Authorized Training Center in the US (and world).
Esoteric Auto Detail Visits RUPES in Italy
One of the things that I applaud Todd in doing is going above and beyond in everything that he does. Todd recently made a trip to Milan, Italy to tour the RUPES design, development and manufacturing facility. This shows his commitment to the products he uses and sells. Understanding a manufacturers history, culture, goals and vision can often have a significant impact on how one feels about a product. From the sounds of it, RUPES is excited to continue to push the envelope in design, functionality and results.
What’s Next for the Auto Detailing Industry
Building these types of relationships between manufacturers and professionals is what the industry needs to continue to press forward. As detailers and manufacturers work closer together, it becomes easier to fine tune products to deliver better results. Without that communication a manufacturer will create products that is in their best interest, not the needs of the ones who use them. Professionals are the ones who drive the auto detailing industry, not manufacturers or resellers. If people do not see products being used by professionals, manufacturers and resellers rely on hype and marketing to sell the product. When a product truly out performs another product, professionals will use it and endorse it. Detailing is a pro-sumer industry and product sales are directly impacted when professionals use products and voice their opinions. These opinions can be in the form or articles, forum posts, Facebook updates, tweets, videos, photos and other types of documentation. I encourage all of you reading this to actively voice your opinions on products, tools, processes and techniques, not just to promote your work, but to further the growth of the auto detailing industry.
