Brand New Ferrari 458 Spider Rosso Corsa Needs Major Detail
Todd Cooperider, owner of Esoteric Auto Detail, may know better than anyone, the problem Ferrari has finishing the paint at the factory. One would think when purchasing a new vehicle costing over a quarter million dollars, it would show up in somewhat respectable condition. Think again! Take a look at the poor condition this brand new 458 Spider arrived in straight from Ferrari. Keep in mind this car did not go through any dealership prep work, this is purely the condition it left the factory in.
Todd told me, this car had one of the most severe case of buffer-induced holograms he has ever seen on a brand new car. Just look at the caked up polish residue on the Ferrari emblem and those SWIRLS!! It’s a good thing these machines are amazing to drive, and there are detailers like Todd to restore cars like this to a truly like new condition.
Rupes Polishers vs Ferrari 458 Paint
Luckily for this Ferrari owner, Todd has a ton of experience correcting these Italian beauties. The paint correction process starts with a compounding phase to remove the deeper imperfections. The combination that was used during the process was the Rupes LHR15 and Rupes LHR75 using a Meguiar’s microfiber cutting pad and Menzerna FG400. It’s kind of ironic that the Italian Ferrari 458 is being fixed by the latest Rupes polishers, imported from Italy! The results from this step show a major transformation in the paint.
I’ve heard a lot of great things about the Menzerna FG400 and was glad to see Esoteric Auto Detail using it. From what I gather, it’s a great cutting compound that doesn’t dust a lot and finishes down nicely. All things a professional detailer want in a compound! The Rupes machines paired with the right pad and polish combo really make light of swirls and imperfections. Here you can see Todd using both Rupes buffers as he makes way around the 458 during the compounding stage.
Polishing and Gloss Enhancing with Sonax Perfect Finish
Once the Ferrari 458 paint has been compounded, the next step is to extract as much gloss and depth from the finish by using a finer polish. The product of choice by Esoteric Auto Detail is Sonax Perfect Finish. Perfect Finish is part of Sonax’s Profiline products and has a cut level of 4 by a finish level of 6. To my knowledge, six is the highest rating Sonax has to date. It is very easy to work with and leaves behind an extraordinary level of gloss and paint clarity. Todd will apply Perfect Finish with the Rupes polishers using a Rupes White Finishing Pad for maximum gloss.
Rupes LHR75 for Tight Areas & Carbon Fiber Pieces
Having the ability to use the Rupes LHR75 in tight spaces will really make your job easier and customers even happier. The 3″ pneumatic polisher navigates tight areas with ease and the control is outstanding. It’s ideal for polishing pillars, front and rear bumpers, lower side skirts, around air intakes and vents, and even carbon fiber trim!
22ple VX1 Pro Glass Coating for Paint Protection
The owner of this Ferrari opted to have 22ple VX1 Pro Glass Coating applied for maximum protection. VX1 Pro is designed to protect the paint for up to 24 months. 22ple also seems add even more gloss to the paint, if that is even possible.
Ferrari 458 Spider Finishing Touches & Photos
After the protective layer has been applied, the Esoteric Auto Detail team completed the finishing touches in order to produce a vehicle that is truly deserving of being delivered as a brand new vehicle.
