22PLE VM1 Wheel Treatment – McLaren MP4-12C – Mike Cardenas
The McLaren MP4-12C is a vehicle designed to go fast, but also designed to stop just as quickly. This phenomenal stopping power comes with one drawback, brake dust. Mike Cardenas of SweetCars was called by a special client to help with this dilemma on his McLaren MP4-12C. The owner of the McLaren is an avid detail enthusiast and had heard about the benefits of 22PLE VM1 on wheels and calipers. He knew that this product would greatly help with cleaning and maintenance of the wheels and calipers of his MP4-12C. The client also knew that he could trust me with safe removal and installation of the wheels without any harm ever coming to vehicle. After all, the vehicle was brought in to look great and not the other way around!
22PLE VM1 Wheel Treatment
After properly washing the McLaren, I set out to start on the wheels. We began by jacking up the vehicle and carefully removing the wheels one by one. McLaren clearly labeled it’s jack points on the underside of the MP4-12C, so lifting was safe and easy.
2012 Ferrari 458 Italia by Mike Cardenas of SweetCars
When a car travels over 1200 miles for a detail, you know the owner is serious about restoring a vehicle to a like new finish and properly protecting the paint. This 2012 Ferrari 458 Italia suffered from holograms, swirl marks and marring due to a previous detailers work. The task at hand was to correct these imperfections in order to remove at least 90% or more of the imperfections in the paint.
Compounding with Scholl’s S3 Gold & Rupes Bigfoot
The thick sheepskin fibers safely loosened and removed contamination from the paint in order to get a better idea of the paints finish. Upon inspecting the paint, it was apparent that some RIDS (really intense deep scratches) were prevalent. Some imperfections were simply too deep to safely remove on such a new vehicle.
Brand New Ferrari 458 Spider Rosso Corsa Needs Major Detail
Todd Cooperider, owner of Esoteric Auto Detail, may know better than anyone, the problem Ferrari has finishing the paint at the factory. One would think when purchasing a new vehicle costing over a quarter million dollars, it would show up in somewhat respectable condition. Think again! Take a look at the poor condition this brand new 458 Spider arrived in straight from Ferrari. Keep in mind this car did not go through any dealership prep work, this is purely the condition it left the factory in.
Todd told me, this car had one of the most severe case of buffer-induced holograms he has ever seen on a brand new car. Just look at the caked up polish residue on the Ferrari emblem and those SWIRLS!! It’s a good thing these machines are amazing to drive, and there are detailers like Todd to restore cars like this to a truly like new condition.
Rupes Polishers vs Ferrari 458 Paint
Luckily for this Ferrari owner, Todd has a ton of experience correcting these Italian beauties. The paint correction process starts with a compounding phase to remove the deeper imperfections. The combination that was used during the process was the Rupes LHR15 and Rupes LHR75 using a Meguiar’s microfiber cutting pad and Menzerna FG400.

Found this tweet, really enjoyed the photo by Richard Tipper of Perfection Detailing
Two cars that would be a blast to work on. I always enjoyed the suicide doors of the Rolls Royce vehicles and the 458 is one of my favorites. Keep up the great work and keep the details coming!

Interlagos BMW M3 vs 2-step Scholl’s S3 Gold & S40
After reading about Scholl’s polishes, I’ve always wanted to give them a shot. I got my hands on some and immediately sought out the perfect candidate to test what these polishes are capable of. Luckily, that same week I was contacted by someone who picked up a 2011 BMW M3 in Interlagos Blue and they wanted the car properly detailed in preparation for a photo shoot. The car clearly needed some correction after looking at it, there were water spots, swirls and scratches throughout.
The Scholl’s S3 Gold on a Griot’s buffer, speed 5 with around 30 pounds of pressure was correcting 90%+ of the imperfections
