22ple VX1 Signature Glass Coating is a new type of product for me, a coating. Before using VX1, I’ve only protected vehicles using a sealant or wax. 22ple has formulated a high silica-content product that creates a layer of glass protection on the paints surface. To demonstrate the effectiveness to me, Todd Cooperider handed me a foam applicator pad, previously used to apply the 22ple VX1 product. To my surprise, the foam pad felt stiff in my hand and you could understand how this product can potentially give you between 18 – 24 months of protection. I knew I had to get my hands on some and put it to the test.
VX1 comes boxed up in glass jars in either 20 ml, 30 ml or 50 ml sizes. I don’t know if it was my excitement that got the best of me, but it took some effort to remove the stopper. I was told if the stopper isn’t put back in after use, the remaining product can harden and render itself useless. Once the stopper was out, I set it aside in a safe place and proceeded to begin applying the product. I used a regular yellow foam applicator pad, knowing that I would be throwing it out when done. I knew that a little product went a long ways when seeing it in action on a test panel in Ohio, so I dabbed the applicator twice with some VX1 and began applying it to the prepped paint. Application was amazingly smooth and effortless. You could easily tell what parts of the vehicle you applied the product to, both visibly and from the feel of the applicator pad.
We let the product setup for a timed 4 minutes then removed. Product removal was incredibly easy and the shine revealed after each wipe of a microfiber towel was equally as impressive.
A little bit of product went a long way, but a little bit of product is all you get with a 30 ml bottle. After spilling a little from knocking it over, this is how much VX1 remained after applying a single coat on a small Infiniti G37x.
I will be revisiting this car on a regular basis to show how it holds up, but so far I am impressed. I rated this product a 4.5, and not a 5 because I think for enthusiasts the price tag may be too much on a per application basis. From a 30 ml bottle, you’ll probably get 2 mid sized vehicles protected. At $42.75 per application, it better last 24 months because it is significantly cheaper to apply your favorite sealant 4 – 6 times in a 24 month period.
22ple VX1 for Professional Detailers
From a professionals perspective, this is an amazing product that can lead to a new service to offer your customers. The ideal client is someone who does not drive a vehicle often and gets a paint correction service and you really want to preserve the finish. Another ideal client may be someone you service on a regular basis, so that your maintenance washes are easier for you! Professionals can easily charge an additional $200 – $400 per application, adding some serious profit to your details.
